REVISTA BRASILEIRA DE ENTOMOLOGIA

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

The Revista Brasileira de Entomologia (RBE) is published by the Sociedade Brasileira de Entomologia (SBE). The RBE publishes original papers in Entomology and also maintains sections for short communications, book reviews and for announcements of general interest. Occasionally, sections containing points of view or reviews may be published, by invitation of the Editorial Board.

There is no page charge when at least one of the authors is a member of SBE. When this condition is not met, there will be a publication fee of R$ 50,00 per page to Brazilian authors and US$ 25,00 per page to foreign authors, for manuscripts with up to three authors. For manuscripts with more than three authors, the publication fee will be, respectively, R$ 100,00 and US$ 50,00.

Authors will pay an additional fee of US$ 300,00 per color plate in the print edition. Publication of color figures and photographs in the online edition (www.scielo.br/rbent) is free of charge (black and white in the print version).

Manuscripts should be written preferably in English. Manuscripts in other languages may be accepted for publication once approved by the Editorial Board. Also, manuscript length should not exceed 120 pages, including figures. In case of longer manuscripts, the authors should consult the Editorial Board previously to submission.

ABSTRACT. Taxonomy of Fanniidae (Diptera) of southern Brazil – II: New species and key to identification of Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy. Fannia are found in all biogeographic regions, except in the poles. This present contribution concerns to 22 species found in southern Brazil including three new species: Fannia opsiasp. nov. from Ponta Grossa (Paraná), Fannia pulvinilenis sp nov. from Pelotas (Rio Grande do Sul) and Fannia xanthothrichia sp. nov. from São José dos Pinhais (Paraná). Fannia carvalhoi Couri, 2005 is recorded for first time in Brazil. The female of Fannia admirabilis Albuquerque, 1958 is described for the first time. A key for identification of male and female to species in southern Brazil is presented. Ilustrations of main diagnostic characters including male and female terminalia are also included.

KEYWORDS. Morphology; Muscoidea; Neotropical region.

“RESUMO” in Portuguese, including the title and “PALAVRAS-CHAVE” in Portuguese, in alphabetic order and similar to the KEYWORDS. Words already included in the title and abstract should not be used keywords.

Scientific names should be followed by author and date of publication at least once in the manuscript. Genus- and species-group names must be written using italics.

Fannia canicularis (Linnaeus, 1761)

Any other markings or signs as to emphasize or call attention should not be used. The Editorial Board will decide on how to proceed for particular cases in manuscripts of subject areas other than Systematics, Morphology and Biogeography.

In the text, the references should be written as follows: Canhedo (2004); (Canhedo 2003, 2004); Canhedo (2004:451); (Canhedo 2004; Martins & Galileo 2004); Parra et al. (2004).

Illustrations—photographs, drawings, graphs and maps—are called figures and should be numbered consecutively (using Arabic numerals) and, preferably, in the same sequence in which they are referred to in the text. Scale-bars should be positioned either vertically or horizontally. Tables (numbered with Roman numerals) should be presented in separate pages at the end of the manuscript. If necessary, graphs may also be included in the text file at the end. Illustrations in digital format must be sent in separate files. Preferred placement for tables and illustrations may be indicated in the text. The figures can be organized in plates, whose size should not exceed twice the size of a printed page (23 x 17.5 cm). Figure numbers should be in Times New Roman font size 11 and positioned at the lower right corner. Labeling applied to figures (numbers, letters and words) should also be in Times New Roman and in an appropriate size in order that, after reduction, they remain clearly visible without becoming more prominent than the illustrations themselves. The Editorial Board can make small modifications or ask the author(s) for a new plate. Photographs and halftone drawings should not be put together with line drawings in the same plate. Each plate should be properly identified with the author’s name and paper title. Figure legends should be typed in a separate sheet. Color illustrations may be accepted for publication provided that the author(s) agree(s) in paying for the extra printing costs.

The ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS should be placed at the end of the text, immediately preceding the References. Authors are encouraged to be succinct. Use the following examples when preparing the REFERENCES section:
